Anti-Globalisation Network

AROUND 100 people attended a meeting called by the Anti-Globalisation Network last weekend to discuss building on the mood after Seattle. There was general agreement to keep exchanging information about activities planned by a wide variety of groups and to cooperate with others to build a major meeting to discuss the Tobin Tax and taxing the multinationals.

The Tobin Tax is a proposal to levy a 0.25 percent charge on financial transactions and speculation. There was also discussion in workshops last weekend about a range of issues. This saw debate about issues such as whether environmentalists could back calls to save car companies like Rover, how groups from differing perspectives could work together over issues where they agreed, and what attitude to take towards Third World governments.
