SLOUGH BOROUGH Council gave planning consent to Grundon Waste Management to build a new waste incinerator in Colnbrook four years ago.

Now the local paper has made public local doctors’ concerns. A campaign group, the Slough Anti-Incinerator Network (SAIN), has held public meetings of more than 200 people and collected over 6,000 signatures.

Studies show a link between incinerators and severe rises in heart disease, asthma and various cancers, particularly child leukaemia.

The local council have admitted that the air surrounding the Grundon site will most likely exceed European air pollution regulations.

SAIN achieved a huge victory at the local elections in June, as the campaign was a major factor in overturning Labour’s majority in the town.

There is one other important path to stopping this horrific project. Public meetings are being planned in the boroughs of Hounslow, Hillingdon, Brent, Ealing, Richmond and Harrow to form new groups to fight the proposals.

A group in Hounslow is already well on its way. The next public meeting will be held in Uxbridge on 19 August. Together we will win and save countless lives.
