Wakefield and District NUT union and the NAHT headteachers’ organisation held a public meeting to launch their campaign against the hated Sats tests last week.

Speakers included a headteacher who had been driven from the job she loved because the school’s Sats results were deemed to be not good enough, and a year six student who spoke about the impact of Sats tests on her and her friends.

Hazel Danson from the NUT executive and author Alan Gibbons spoke about the importance of the national joint campaign to get rid of Sats.

People at the meeting stressed the importance of debating alternatives to Sats, and raised a number of suggestions about how to involve students and parents in the campaign.
