Arms: Labour sells more

ARMS SALES have doubled under the New Labour government. The government’s own figures revealed a shocking rise in the trade in lethal military equipment to some of the world’s most repressive regimes. The value of Britain’s arms sales increased from 980 million in 1999 to over 1.7 billion last year. New Labour last year approved the sale of:

  • Machine-guns and explosives to Israel for use in its war against the Palestinians.
  • Stun grenades to state forces in Colombia.
  • Riot control equipment, including CS gas hand grenades to the undemocratic regime in Saudi Arabia.
  • Five Hawk aircraft to Indonesia.

New Labour is now pouring in millions of pounds to host an arms fair with the world’s biggest traders in death in London’s Docklands on 11 to 14 September.
