More than 30 Freedom Ride campaigners demonstrated at Barnsley Interchange on Tuesday of last week.

They demanded the reinstatement of free train travel for older people that four South Yorkshire Labour councils axed last April.

The protesters demonstrated noisily through the bus station and on one of the rail station platforms.

Support for the campaign continues to grow, with the Communication Workers Union being the latest to make a financial donation. Campaign speakers addressed the Stoke National Pensioners Convention too.

The campaign has elected delegates to go to the Unite the Resistance conference in November and agreed to sponsor the conference. A mass solidarity demonstration is planned outside Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday 8 December when two Freedom Riders arrested at a previous protest begin their trial.
