A ballot of thousands of workers at the BBC began on Monday this week.

The ballot involves all BBC members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bectu and Unite unions.

A united strike could shut down the BBC, with everyone from studio technicians to journalists walking out.

BBC management has threatened 2,000 job cuts as well as a huge assault on programming, websites and channels.

There will also be less new contact generated.

This will amount to a 20 percent budget cut.

Since 2004 more than 7,000 jobs have gone at the BBC—that is 1,000 every year.

And bosses at the top are paid 47 times the lowest salary.

The ballot will close on 24 November.
