Over 1,500 council workers lobbied Birmingham city council’s meeting on Tuesday of this week.

Thousands signed a petition demanding that single status wage cuts are dropped and the government funds increases to low paid workers’ income without cuts for anyone else.

The Tory-Lib Dem coalition that runs the council is panicking. Lib Dem councillor John Hemming MP was booed as he attempted to justify the council’s policy.

Caroline Johnson, Unison assistant branch secretary, said that the branch will ballot for strike action if the council don’t drop the changes.

A demonstration has been called for the new year.

Labour councillor Ian Ward said, “We support you and support your strike ballot”.

Manchester mental health strikers addressed the crowd.and held a collection.
