Members of the Unison and GMB unions held an angry protest outside Bolton Town Hall on Wednesday of last week against cuts to adult care.

The council wants to slash £1 million from the budget of this vital service.

Andrea, a Unison steward, asked, “How do the council intend to provide a quality service for elderly and vulnerable people if they cut care staff?

“The women who do this work are already on low pay and many of their their partners are being made redundant.”

Care workers were particularly annoyed at the response of Sean Harriss, the council’s chief executive.

When asked about his £155,000 salary he simply replied that he was “worth it”.
