Brighton and Hove council workers to ballot for action over single status

Workers in the GMB union at Brighton and Hove council are set to ballot for industrial action over a single status pay deal.

In July the council said 823 staff would face a pay cut. That number has now increased to over 1,200.

Mark Turner, GMB branch secretary in Brighton, said, “These are the worst negotiations that I have been involved in, in my 25 years of my trade union activities.

“The council is still hell bent to attack refuse collectors’ pay, and not satisfied with that they want to attack other front line services predominately women in the home care sector.

“This is a despicable way of treating loyal staff. The pay cuts could lead to them losing their homes.”
