HUNDREDS OF workers at British Gypsum’s plasterboard sites, gypsum mines and quarries are in the fourth week of a programme of one-day official strikes over pay. The company has made a record profit of 230 million and given its directors a 6 percent rise.

Yet the workforce has only been offered 3.5 percent. The strike action has hit British Gypsum’s plants in Kirkby Thore, Cumbria; Sheburn, Yorkshire; Robertsbridge, East Sussex; and East Leake, Barrow and Newark in the East Midlands. Each of these plants were due to hold another 24-hour strike this week.
