Calls are growing for a new inquiry into police corruption that derailed the hunt for Stephen Lawrence’s killers.

A gang of white racists killed Stephen in south east London in April 1993.

The Macpherson inquiry into the police handling of the case concluded that the Metropolitan Police was “institutionally racist”.

There are widespread calls for the Macpherson inquiry to be reconvened, including from the Lawrence family.

This follows renewed allegations of criminality involving Detective Sergeant John Davidson.

Davidson was at the heart of the initial police investigation into the murder.

Police files said Davidson dealt “in all aspects of criminality”.

A police supergrass said Davidson admitted that officers had a corrupt relationship with Clifford Norris, the father of one of Stephen’s killers.
