Call for protests over VAT rise

UK Uncut and other activists are calling for protests against the government’s rise in VAT.

The rise, which applies to goods and services, hits the poor much harder than the rich.

The protests follow successful action against tax dodging that shut down high street stores including Vodafone, Topshop and Boots.

More than £125 billion is lost every year in Britain due to tax avoidance.

Activists will take to the streets on Saturday of this week and further protests are planned throughout January and February.
