Hurlingham and Chelsea School is a mixed secondary comprehensive in Fulham, west London. It was in special measures for two years and came out with a very positive Ofsted report at the beginning of this year.
The new Tory-run council has proposed closing it next year, throwing 650 pupils out of school and 100 staff out of work.
Hurlingham’s site has huge redevelopment potential and its sale would enable the Tories to cut council tax.
This is an overwhelmingly working class school with a mainly NUT union workforce (including the head). The staff are very buoyant and up for a fight, but messages of support – especially from people involved in previous campaigns – are urgently needed.
