More than 1,000 people attended Saturday’s climate change demonstration. It was called because the Kyoto agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions came into force on Wednesday of this week.
We marched to the US embassy because the US government has not signed up to the agreement.
Earlier this week the European Commission rejected Blair’s plans for combating global warming because they were too lenient on big business.
The Kyoto agreement is incredibly important because this is an issue that cannot be dealt by countries acting individually. I see it as the thin end of the wedge, establishing the principle of international limits on emissions.
We are now hoping to build an international day of protest on climate change in November.
