About 50 trade unionists and community activists attended a meeting in Clydebank on Tuesday of last week to start the process of bringing together working class organisations in the town.
Dave Moxham, deputy general secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), spoke at the meeting and said that the STUC was committed to helping joint campaigns between community activists and trade unionists.
Speakers from the Unison and Unite unions explained their recent struggles over pay and conditions. A speaker from the EIS teachers’ union spoke about the fight against the disciplinary action that is being taken against its members for refusing to cross picket lines.
Activists against poverty and for council housing urged people to build for action on housing sell offs and on fuel poverty.
All those attending were clear that workers should not pay for the crisis in capitalism.
