Up to four fire stations in Warwickshire could close as council cuts bite—putting one in six firefighters’ jobs in the county at risk.
The firefighters’ FBU union says the cuts would lead to an increase in fire response times and endanger lives.
Some 60 out of the county’s 400 firefighters across 19 stations could lose their jobs if the planned cuts go ahead.
Steve Roberts of the local FBU branch said, “Our members are shocked. The mood is for industrial action.”
Plans to close seven fire stations were put on hold after a campaign in May.
