The family of Jean Charles de Menezes, the 27 year old Brazilian shot dead by police at a London tube station in July, spoke out for justice on Monday of this week.

Jean’s mother, Maria Otone de Menezes, told a 200-strong meeting in London, “Justice must be done. I do not want any other mother to suffer as I have.” Maria, who had travelled to London from Brazil, condemned the police’s shoot to kill policy.

Other speakers condemned the misinformation that Met chief Sir Ian Blair allowed to circulate in the media following the shooting, and his attempts to prevent an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation.

Yvonne Ridley of Respect said, “While Bush and Blair bomb Iraq and Afghanistan they also want to carpet bomb our liberties at home.”
