The Abortion Rights campaign has called a Stand Up for Choice counter protest against a so-called March for Life on 6 September.
The March for Life activists don’t care about life. They want to take away women’s hard-won rights to control their fertility and choose whether they want to be pregnant or not.
They want a ban on all abortions, even when a woman’s life is under threat. Their slogan is “Life from conception, no exception”. They want to turn women into human incubators.
The March for Life is backed by the Alliance Defending Freedom UK (ADF) which in turn is financially backed by ADF in the United States.
This is an organisation with links to leading Republican politicians. It was at the centre of the campaign in 2022 to overturn Roe v Wade, the legislation that made a woman’s right to choose part of national policy.
The AFD in the United States contributed over a million pounds to ADF International in Britain in 2024.
This is the group who fight for the right for anti-abortion campaigners to harass women and staff entering hospitals and abortion clinics.
They fund legal cases supporting people who have broken buffer zones laws by protesting outside abortion providers and are supported by Donald Trump’s Vice President JD Vance.
Another anti-abortion organisation from the US has announced it is joining the anti-choice march.
The Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) is one of a new breed of anti-abortion campaigns.
The PAAU declares, “We’re committed to the progressive feminist values of equality, non-violence, and nondiscrimination through an anti-capitalist lens.
“We’re committed to radical inclusivity while magnifying secular, leftist, and LGBTQIA+ identifying pro-life voices, especially those belonging to people of colour.”
But no-one should be conned. The PAAU is “committed to ending elective abortion no matter how long it takes.” It is associated with Donald Trump and the far right.
PAAU is led by Lauren Handy. Handy served time in prison for blockading an abortion clinic. She was pardoned by Donald Trump in January 2025.
Another PAAU activist, Randall Terry, led protests against George Tiller’s abortion clinic in Kansas in the 1990s. Tiller was murdered by an anti-abortionist.
Terry responded by saying, “George Tiller was a mass murderer. We grieve for him that he did not have time to properly prepare his soul to face God. Abortion is still murder.”
PAAU is aligned with the most notorious figures in the US anti-abortion movement.
Kerry Abel, chair of Abortion Rights said “PAAU’s presence at March for Life UK is a warning sign: far-right US networks are building visibility in Britain and finding platforms at the country’s largest anti-abortion event.”
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage wants to cut the time limit on abortion. The far right claim the right to choose is a “white genocide”.
Mark Collett, founder of Patriotic Alternative, wrote “the more you look into abortion the more chilling it becomes. It is really important that nationalist women and in particular nationalist mothers take the lead on this and reach out to other women in order to help end this madness”.
Tommy Robinson regularly posts in support of anti-abortion activists prosecuted for praying outside abortion clinics to intimidate women.
