Around 75 tenants and trade unionists attended the launch of a local Defend Council Housing (DCH) campaign in Kingston, west London last week.

It was called in response to the proposed stock transfer of Kingston’s council housing by the Lib Dems and Tories. The meeting was very lively and the Tory councillor heading up the transfer, Mike England, was ridiculed throughout.

The meeting shows that the campaign has the potential to fight the council on the question of stock transfer.

Defend Council Housing has published a new pamphlet setting out the case for government to invest in first class council housing.

The pamphlet titled, Dear Gordon 2: Investment In First Class Council Housing, argues for a new council house building programme as an alternative to market forces in housing. It’s available from » www.defendcouncilhousing.org.uk
