A public petition has been launched to reinstate Claire Lyall, a community worker and Unison union vice-convenor of Glasgow social work shop stewards.
Claire is appealing against her dismissal in July by Glasgow City Council.
Glasgow City Unison branch said, “We believe Claire has been unfairly sacked by social work management.
“She was dismissed in her absence at a hearing that both her doctor and the council’s own medical consultants had advised she was unfit to attend.
“The events which triggered the initial investigation wholly related to Claire’s duties as a trade union representative. She was dismissed for a conduct matter whilst on sick leave.
“Unison believes this is highly unusual. Claire has nearly 20 years’ service with the council during which time she has never been the subject of a complaint, investigation or disciplinary action.”
