Unite Against Fascism (UAF) supporters protested in Manchester against the Nazis and Ukip during the Wythenshawe and Sale East by-election on Thursday of last week.
The Nazi British National Party (BNP) and Ukip were standing in the by-election.
Labour councillor Daniel Gillard joined the protest and said, “We should unite and say racism isn’t welcome in Manchester.”
Valeska Matziol, a migrant from Germany who works in the voluntary sector, joined the protest.
She said, “Immigrants use less public services and claim fewer benefits, but we’re presented as scroungers.
“Immigration is not the problem, it is poverty and inequality.”
Unite Against Fascism is backing a counter demonstration against the English Defence League (EDL) in Grantham on Saturday of this week.
The EDL plans to protest against the building of an Islamic centre. Local anti-racists have called the counter-protest.
