COUNCIL HOUSE repair workers in Birmingham have begun a battle over pay after the Labour-run council reneged on a 4.5 percent offer.
Council leader Albert Bore is accusing the 1,800 workers in the housing repairs and maintenance division of having high sickness rates. He claims this is responsible for a backlog in repairs.
But Bore’s agenda is to privatise all 90,000 council homes in Birmingham. Pro-privatisation councils around the country have allowed repairs to pile up to put pressure on tenants to vote for a private landlord to take over.
The repairs workers are refusing to take the blame. Unions were planning to hold a protest on Friday of this week.
