Following European wide strikes and a thousands strong demonstration that confronted the European Parliament in Strasbourg this week, MEPs have voted to reject the proposed Ports Services Directive by 532 to 120.

The directive proposed the liberalisation of ports across Europe and represented a serious attack on the jobs and conditions of dock workers.

It is the second time in three years that the dock workers have taken action to defeat neo-liberal proposals from the European Union.
