Ealing homes victory
THE WHOLESALE privatisation of Ealing council’s 19,000 homes is off. Suddenly money, which was not on the horizon early last year, has come from the government.
The council admits the transfer was stopped partly because of “early indications suggesting some estates likely to be strongly opposed”. Ealing Defend Council Homes has involved council tenants, and got backing from the local UNISON, GMB, MSF, TGWU and BECTU unions, and Ealing Trades Council.
We petitioned estates and had monthly organising meetings. The council now wants to sell off housing estate by estate. The campaign continues.
