Outsourced traffic wardens in Ealing have begun a five-day strike this week to win the reinstatement of sacked union rep Parveen Bhardwaj.
This follows four days of strikes already this month against their employer, NSL.
The wardens, members of the Unite union, voted by over 80 percent last week to escalate their dispute after talks went nowhere.
“NSL insisted that they had made the correct decision sacking Parveen,” said Unite rep Patrice.
“We believe this is unfair dismissal and we will continue our campaign for reinstatement. ”
Odane was elected the rep to replace Parveen. “It’s important to stand firm against attacks on our trade unions,” he said.
Patrice expressed his thanks to everyone who has sent messages of support for their dispute. “We are getting very good support from the trade union movement,” he said.
“The messages of solidarity coming in from trade unionists around the country who’ve read our story are very important to us.”
Odane added, “Our strike is solid, that’s clearly shown by our vote last week, and we are determined to keep going until we win.”
