Labour came fourth in the by-election with a vote that barely changed from the 2010 general election.

Instead of realising that moving to the right doesn’t help them they look set to draw the opposite conclusion.

Labour MP Austin Mitchell posted on Twitter, “Eastleigh disaster. Labour needs a nationalist appeal.

“The nation is being betrayed, weakened and sold down river.

“We should say so”.

A Labour Party political broadcast on immigration was set to broadcast as Socialist Worker went to press.

Labour thinks the best way to get the votes of working class people is to limit immigration instead of resisting austerity.

Chasing the Tories further in a race to the right, Labour published a report on Tuesday of this week that proposed cutting tax on profits.

Resisting austerity and racism is the way to take on the government.

The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition also stood a candidate, and received 0.15 percent of the vote
