Around 2,000 Egyptian riot police have attacked members of the Viva Palestina aid convoy at the port of al-Arish – on the Egyptian side of the border with Gaza – after the convoy was refused entry to the crossing.
Ten members of the convoy have been injured and seven arrested in the clashes. Hundreds of Egyptian riot police with water cannons and tear gas attacked members of the convoy as they formed a human wall along the border in protest at being turned away.
Meanwhile, Al-Jazeera’s Gaza correspondent has reported that at least 35 Palestinians were injured and an Egyptian border guard shot dead in clashes between the Egyptian authorities and a Hamas organised demonstration inside Gaza that came to the border to demand the convoy be allowed in.
