NEW AND old hands in cinema united in support of October’s European Social Forum (ESF) at the premiere of Ken Loach’s Ae Fond Kiss.

Ken Loach (below) suggested this response to globalisation: “We have to make links across Europe to oppose the interests of multinationals, which are openly threatening the peace of the world.”

WE’VE HAD some good experiences building the ESF in Birmingham.

  • Friday 20 August: While visiting Aston mosque, we met a union activist from the local post sorting office who took information away to give to the union rep.

lWednesday 25 August: 20 people left their details to get information about the ESF at a vibrant Stop the War Coalition video showing.

  • Thursday 26 August: We went round workplaces and community organisations in Winson Green and Handsworth, getting information to the union reps at Allied Bakeries, the PCS civil service workers’ union rep at the Soho Road office, and two Sikh gurdwaras (temples).

  • Friday 27 August: We were interviewed for an hour for New Style FM, a radio station based in Winson Green with a large underground audience.
