Workers are opposing SNP-run Falkirk council’s move to “impose” its single-status contract on staff.
Falkirk is the first Scottish council to impose pay and terms and conditions on employees, which means that some workers will lose out on previous bonuses, in order to bring others up to the standard conditions.
Alex McLuckie, GMB Scotland’s senior organiser, said the decision to impose a new contract as effective dismissal of 5,000 workers and described it as “shocking”.
He said, “We are aware other councils are ready to take the same action as Falkirk.
“If this happens, we could see industrial unrest across all councils.”
