Farmers double fortune
NEARLY 1,000 farmers are pocketing two lots of compensation for animals culled under measures to control foot and mouth.
Government adviser on the disease Roy Anderson said the outbreak of foot and mouth is only continuing because it is being spread by farmers. Insurance companies admit they are paying out up to 500,000 to some farmers, who are also being fully compensated by the government.
Farmers have already been caught colluding with valuers to deliberately overestimate the value of their livestock.
