Up to 1,000 people attended the third annual Feminism in London conference last Saturday— three times the number who came last year.

There was a mood of anger about the disproportionate impact the government’s austerity plans will have on women.

Many stopped at the Socialist Worker stall outside asking, “Why aren’t we marching like the French?”

Unfortunately this mood of militancy was not reflected in many of the speeches from the platform and there was limited time for participation from the floor.

But the attendance demonstrates the continuing growth of interest and activism around the question of women’s liberation.
