Roger Hutt, a Care UK striker, is clear about the Tories’ aims for the health service. “Our society is defined by how we look after the most vulnerable,” he said. “But this lot want to erode our NHS and the welfare state.”

Roger and his co-workers face an attack by Care UK bosses that could cut some of their wages in half.

But they are fighting back.

Health secretary Jeremy Hunt has refused to pay NHS workers the below-inflation 1 percent he promised. The Tories want to carve up the service for privatisation vultures.

As Care UK Unison steward Andy Squires put it, “If private companies can do this in the NHS it means it’s not just about us—it’s about everybody.”
