Socialist Workers Party member and author Martin Empson was set to debate officials from fracking firm Cuadrilla on Monday of this week.

Cuadrilla failed to show, but the meeting in Burnley still went ahead with over 30 people coming to discuss the firm’s fracking plans.

Cuadrilla’s fracking was linked to earthquakes in Blackpool. It has been granted licences to frack in the Fylde Valley despite local opposition.

Meanwhile, Greater Manchester Police is to set up a panel into the policing of a protest camp against drilling by IGas on Barton Moss near Eccles. This follows anger and controversy over policing of anti-fracking protests there.
