Hundreds of activists attended a conference on Palestine, Israel and the Law in central London last Saturday. The conference was organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Palestinian campaigner Doctor Mustapha Barghouti opened the conference by describing the reality of the continuing Israeli occupation of Palestinian areas.

He pointed out the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip was a “restructuring of the occupation”.

Israel still retains control of all the borders and “Gaza is becoming a huge prison”. Israel also wants to annex 50 percent of the West Bank.

Other speakers included Barry Camfield of the T&G union, solicitor Daniel Machover who recently obtained an arrest warrant for the Israeli major-general Doron Almog, and Ronnie Kasrils, a minister in the South African government.

Free Palestine — End Israeli Occupation lobby of parliament, 3-6pm Tuesday 29 November, House of Commons, London.
