Gate Gourmet workers are angry and frustrated that even the limited settlement they were offered has been delayed by bickering between their employer and British Airways (BA).

The implementation of the deal cannot go ahead until Gate Gourmet signs a new contract with BA.

But BA won’t sign the deal until Gate Gourmet sorts out its dispute with its workers!

While these two sets of bosses wrangle, Gate Gourmet workers pay the price in further anxiety and poverty.

Hundreds of workers are still waiting to find out exactly what they have been offered, whether they can return and what their redundancy terms are.

The delay is especially dangerous because the deadline to take cases to an employment tribunal is 9 November.

This Sunday workers were to mount a protest outside Gate Gourmet at 12 noon at the “Beacon Hill” by Terminal 4, and some T&G union members are continuing to picket the plant.

An agreement between Gate Gourmet and BA was due to be signed this week, but this may not resolve all the outstanding issues.

The present problems underline the shortcomings of the deal agreed to end the strike, and that at least some workers were not fully aware of what would then happen.
