Rail workers on London’s Gatwick Express are balloting for strikes over job cuts.

The RMT union members’ jobs are threatened because of increased automation on the gatelines at Victoria and Gatwick stations.

The Gatwick Express service is owned by Southern, which is in turn owned by the FTSE-listed Go-Ahead Group.

It announced earlier this month that its profits have shot up by almost 30 percent—including £48 million from the railways. RMT general secretary Bob Crow said the firm is “threatening jobs in order to fatten up profits”.
