The indefinite all-out strike by Glasgow Airport firefighters, who are in the T&G union, entered its second week on Monday.

This follows a vote of 88 percent to strike over health and safety. The British Airport Authority is proposing to cut in-house fire cover at the airport making it rely more on outside fire services. These cuts would increase response times from two minutes to nine minutes. The cuts ignore the significant increase in passenger figures and airport expansion that has taken place in recent years.

Although management has organised a scabbing operation, using managers and senior staff from other airports, the strike is solid with picketing round the clock. The strikers are asking for support from other workers.
