The five-month indefinite strike by Community Service Supervisors in the Unison union in Glasgow is putting the council under pressure.

The strike is over the single status pay regrading deal. It has led to a major backlog of community service orders in the city.

Glasgow’s Labour council is threatening to use extra funding from the Scottish National Party government to put the work out to tender rather than pay the workers the rate they deserve.

Councillors discussed arbitration in a search for a solution last week. They had rejected this option until now.

One striker resolutely commented, “We’re staying out until we see a deal from the council.”
