A group of social workers in Glasgow walked out unofficially last Friday afternoon. All ten workers in the office walked out.
The Unison union members work in the North and East Community Homelessness Casework Team of Glasgow City Council Social Work Services.
They walked out on strike after management suspended one of their colleagues for refusing to cover for vacant posts.
Workers are unhappy about increased workloads. Demand for homelessness services has gone up while jobs and service provision has been cut.
The situation remains unresolved.
One Glasgow Unison steward told Socialist Worker, “This issue affects workers across social work in Glasgow, and also across public services, as workloads increase and bosses aren’t recruiting the extra staff we need.
“This is at a time when more and more people rely on public services as the effects of Tory austerity kick in.”
