Students filled the picket lines at Glasgow university to stand in solidarity with their striking lecturers today, Thursday.
Most students understand the necessity of strikes to beat the savage cuts being pushed through the higher education sector.
The picket lines were full of homemade placards and students were keen to have their photos taken with the ‘I support UCU’ placard.
Campus was covered with posters and placards supporting the strike. One picket line was 30-strong, with students leafleting their fellow students, getting them to sign a petition of support and donate money.
The strike played an important role in building support for the big strike on the 24 March – where college and university lecturers will strike across Britain and Northern Ireland.
It will be the first UK-wide strike against the Con-Dem coalition. We need to show that we can break their agenda of cuts with strikes.
With just over a week left before the TUC demonstration on 26 March, students and lecturers are setting the tone for the struggles ahead.
