A Glasgow Unison union convenor won her appeal yesterday, Tuesday, against her dismissal by city council bosses. She is to be fully reinstated to her job as a community worker.
Unison social work vice-convenor Claire Lyall was dismissed in her absence at a hearing that both her doctor and the council’s own medical consultants had advised she was unfit to attend.
But a panel of city councillors yesterday reversed that decision and said Claire should be fully reinstated.
Glasgow City Unison applauded the appeal panel for “correcting a huge wrong”. It had campaigned for Claire’s reinstatement arguing, “The events which triggered the initial investigation wholly related to Claire’s duties as a trade union representative.”
The branch thanked the thousands of people who signed the petition and sent messages of support for Claire.
Unison said, “Claire is delighted with the result.”
