Some 300 people packed into a meeting in Halifax, West Yorkshire, to protest against the proposed closure of an A&E unit.
The Unison union organised the meeting.
The local Trust’s preferred option is to close the A&E at Halifax Royal Infirmary. Other options include the closure of an A&E in nearby Huddersfield.
Campaigners agreed that is important to defend A&E, rather than let one town be played off against the other. Plans are being made for a big vibrant campaign. The Trust needs to save £50 million a year due to PFI debt.
