Haringey senior citizens go into battle against cuts

Elderly people from the Caribbean Senior Citizens Association marched on Haringey council last week.

The group has been evicted from the Welbourne Centre in Tottenham, which has a lively social scene, and is also used for meetings and funerals.

Haringey has planned for several years to close the centre and sell the site, with its surrounding land, on the open market.

This would be expected to raise over a million pounds. So the closure of the centre is about profit coming before people.
