Ofsted, the hated schools and children’s services inspectorate, is used to branding workers as “failures”. This week it got a taste of its own medicine.
Teachers, social service workers, council workers and MPs launched a barrage of attacks on Ofsted. It was accused of being “flawed, wasteful and failing”.
The Local Government Association said that Ofsted was “too concerned about protecting its own reputation”. Critics say it puts too much emphasis on “ticking boxes”.
Ofsted is a bureaucratic obstacle that wastes workers’ time, causes stress, and judges services on criteria that those who work in them see as irrelevant. It is a mechanism for policing workers and should be abolished.
