Campaigners in Leeds have won a legal challenge to the planned closure of the children’s heart surgery service at Leeds General Infirmary.

The High Court has ruled that the consultation over changes to children’s heart surgery in England and Wales was unfair and flawed. Nearly 600,000 people signed a petition against the planned closure. But campaigners warn that the unit isn’t entirely safe yet.

March to save Whittington

Defend Whittington hospital has called a march against cuts and privatisation of the hospital this Saturday in north London.

The hospital management plans to sell off £17 million of hospital buildings and cut at least 570 jobs. The hospital is set to become a Health and Social Care hospital with less than 180 beds.

In 2010 the campaign stopped the government’s plans to close the A&E, children’s, maternity and intensive care services.
