More than 200 hospital domestics, catering staff and porters in North Devon were set to strike for two days as Socialist Worker went to press. This follows a 97 percent vote for strike action.

The low paid workers in the Unison union are angry because their employer, Sodexo, and the local NHS Trust have failed to implement a government agreement to give outsourced staff NHS pay and conditions.

The Trust has received the funds from the government to implement this from 2006 but has chosen not to. After three years of being ignored and fobbed off, the members decided that strike action was the only way to get the employers to honour the agreement.
