I’M SURE all Socialist Worker readers will have gained some Yuletide cheer from the problems which were so clearly stacking up under Blair’s Christmas tree.

Last year Socialist Worker was able to play an important part in the growing movement against New Labour and the war. It was also able to make a real contribution to fightbacks like the one launched by the postal workers. This year we want to increase the audience for the paper among anti-war campaigners, rank and file trade unionists, students, anti-capitalists and working people across Britain.

Every reader of Socialist Worker can help. By taking just a few copies of Socialist Worker to sell at work, on your estate, at your college or in your Stop the War group or trade union branch you can help to widen the networks of resistance.

This week, for example, you can help spread the message about the electoral coalition against Blair, the resistance by civil servants, the fight against fees, the campaign against the occupation of Iraq and much more. And the paper brings all these issues together round socialist politics.

The paper can equip activists with the arguments they need, inform them of other battles that are taking place and link issues together.

Offer inspiration

Socialist Worker is a vital part of fanning the flames of resistance. We also want to make sure this year that if someone buys the paper one week they are offered it the next week and every week afterwards.

And remember that we rely on your stories and pictures to give Socialist Worker the flavour of what is happening. Any story, no matter how small, can offer inspiration to other activists faced with the same challenges.

If you have a story for Socialist Worker, reports on strikes, demonstrations and campaigns-or criticism or disagreement with what the paper has said-please phone 020 7538 0828, e-mail [email protected] or write to PO Box 82, London E3 3LH.

All blagging aside, Socialist Worker really is your paper. By widening the readership and increasing readers’ participation, we want it to be even more of a thorn in Tony Blair’s side this year.
