Striking caretakers from Huddersfield Technical College came to London last week to speak at a Unison union meeting in Croydon and a meeting of the Unison United Left group.

The strikers, now in their fifth week on strike, reported that the action is still completely solid despite management making an offer of £1,000 to each worker, which was overwhelmingly rejected as it does not address the key issues in the dispute.

At the Unison United Left meeting £62.50 was collected, and pledges were made to get a tour of as many union meetings as possible next week to spread the support and raise money.

While in London, the two strikers tried to see Unison general secretary Dave Prentis. He was not available so Mandy Berger, Unison deputy regional convenor for London, welcomed them and gave solidarity greetings outside the union headquarters.
