Anti-Nazi activists in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, have successfully seen off an attempt by the British National Party (BNP) to gain a foothold in the area.
The Nazi BNP stood in a by-election on Thursday of last week in the Bentswood ward of Haywards Heath.
The fascists threw serious resources at their campaign. But Mid Sussex Unite Against Fascism leafleted every house in the ward and the BNP came last, winning just 6.6 percent of the vote.
Mid Sussex Unite Against Fascism now plans to organise Love Music Hate Racism fundraising events to help the fight against the BNP. To get involved or simply join the mailing list, email [email protected]
A BNP meeting in Norfolk was scuppered after a member of the public tipped off a pub landlord that the fascists had booked his venue under a false name.
The Nazis had reserved a function room at the White Horse in Trowse under the name “Broadlands Historical Society”.
Unite Against Fascism’s national conference will take place at the TUC in central London on 21 February. Go to » www.uaf.org.uk for more details.
