Refuse workers in the GMB union in Islington, north London, struck on Tuesday of this week against changes to recycling and collection rounds.

The workers are employed by Accord ICSL. Islington council has instructed the company to increase recycling and reduce domestic refuse collections.

The union believes this will lead to a worse service, increase the staff’s workload and have a detrimental impact upon health and safety.
